After we sold all our belongings to start our new journey in 2016, the first national park we visited was Badlands National Park that July. This summer, we revisited the Badlands and fell in love all over again. Between the geology, wildlife, and clouds, it’s truly remarkable. We’ve been to Yellowstone, Tetons, etc- but we saw so many animals this time without having to deal with the crowds..which is how we roll!!!!
This part of South Dakota is also Bighorn Sheep territory, so like other places we visit with Frankie, we have to do our research—-talk to the local rangers and respect the rules. For those unfamiliar with national parks, 99% of parks are NOT pet-friendly when it comes to trails. That means we get a few pictures of Frankie in pet-friendly spots, but for the most part- we camp and hike on other public land. Even then, you still have to research because other land can also be critical habitats for protected wildlife. It’s important domestic animals do not come in contact with wildlife (to avoid transmitting diseases or parasites), so while visiting places life this, Frankie and her humans must stay at a distance. Frankie enjoyed watching these beauties from the car and camp, but when the sheep got too close to “home”, she went inside. For those thinking about hiking/packing/traveling with goats, a great resource is @northamericanpackgoat who keep up with relevant legislation but ***all*** aspects of goat ownership.
