Prison is evil and it shouldn’t exist! If you know anything about prison, if you’ve been inside one, if you’ve loved someone who is incarcerated, you’re probably well aware that they rely on dehumanization. It’s probably hard to imagine, as someone using a phone to scroll through instagram right now, that when you’re in prison you might not have access to your photographs, documents, or keepsakes. You often don’t have access to music. You might have a song or beat in your head you want to listen to so bad but not be able to. I volunteer with Give A Beat, which, among other epic things, is an organization based in LA that provides music & DJ classes to incarcerated people. It’s awesome and I love being apart of it, but what’s even more awesome is THEY’RE LAUNCHING A RECORD LABEL!! Here in LA! And that means that participants in the programs are now beginning incredible musical careers! So buy a ticket to the Record Label Launch party on 9/14.
