What is it to feel as if you are living a double life? What is it to feel as if you have to deny one part of your identity to preserve another? What does this fragmentation do to us? In my latest music video I portray a queer, Black refugee, sandwiched between White supremacy, assimilation and homophobia. When I was 14 years old inside the lobby of a hotel in Durham North Carolina, the late Andre Leon Talley @andreltalley said to me “Young man I want you to remember something, “Everybody ain’t able” to which I said “Mr. Talley what does that mean” and he looked me straight in my eyes and replied “Everybody ain’t able to be what they want to be”. This moment has stuck with me most of my life as I’ve traveled the world, experienced many cultures and realized that most people despite our western ideas of “following your dreams” do not have that opportunity, it isn’t even fathomable. I am so proud of director @barbaranastacio for bringing this reality to life. This is one of my most favorite music videos I have created. If you haven’t watched my new music video “Carry On” feat @iamjonsi, I suggest you do. @youtube search “Carry On” by Mykki Blanco and enjoy Love - Mykki “Stay Close To Music” my new album is out now on @transgressivehq
