After more testing of techniques, figuring out light placement and soldering (done by @athel_artistry ), patterning, and fitting, @kristisiedowthompsondesign finalized the structure, techniques, and pattern pieces for Yvie’s dress. She then mailed me a pack of pattern pieces, yards of the final fabric (which was this shiny organza that wound up being the slipperiest fabric I’ve worked with), along with samples and instructions on how it needed to be assembled. I spent over a week working around the clock to cut, sew, flip, and iron down hundreds of organza strips to form the gills; sewed together multiple heavy duty clear mesh pieces which formed the mushroom heads; and then sewed the gills onto several of the mushroom heads. At the end, I sewed almost 30 hours straight to finish. It was a really intense sewing marathon! I then overnighted my pieces to Kristi so that she could finish up the rest of the gown. And then the rest is history! I also spent some time playing with the code to manipulate how the lights would dance around, but we were short on time at that point and it didn’t make it to the final dress either, but that’s ok! I will use that skill in the future. :) Once again, a huge Thank You to Kristi for this amazing opportunity! As a longtime fan of the show (who actually did a Drag Race cosplay many years ago), this whole experience has just been a pipe dream come true! But honestly, I truly enjoyed the creative and collaborative spirit of the whole project, and I would love to do more! [And yes to all my fellow Texans, I was working on my portions in June 2021 when Ercot announced that we might have yet another power outage. It is not lost on me as both a friend of Kristi’s and a longtime fan of the show that the onus was on me to get stuff done, but for the power to jeopardize whether I would finish my work?
