I am incredibly excited to announce my involvement in Inside the Cauldron, a film based on an unpublished ecological text by Leonora Carrington. We’re raising funds to help make this project possible. More info below a link in my bio to donate 💋 •••••• In 2019 @sophie.m.e.i & @india.ayles met the writer Marina Warner who entrusted them with an unpublished ecological essay by her friend, the artist Leonora Carrington. Leonora laments the destruction of the natural world, fifty years on the text emerges into the future that Carrington feared. We need your help to make the essay come to life... We’ve been granted access to shoot in Carrington’s former home and studio @casacarrington.uam in Mexico City where the film will become part of their permanent collection. We’re delighted The Derek Jarman Lab @jarmanlab are producing the project Inspired by Leonora’s love of hybridity and ecology, we’re creating anthropomorphic dance, sculptural costume [including crystalised fabric] + a voiceover of the essay by Marina Warner. We have an amazing team of creatives based in the UK and Mexico celebrating the cross-cultural spirit of Carrington who emigrated to Mexico City Due to the non-profit nature of the film, which straddles the boundaries of essayistic film making and moving-image artwork, we have launched a kickstarter to fundraise.
