Building DV has been a weird and wonderful adventure. We mostly talk about the newsworthy stuff, and yet, our journey has been anything but straightforward from the early days. A serious production issue in our first year, which would put the healthiest business down; initially juggling a second company to avoid bringing on investors; and still running out of money consistently enough to keep us at the edge of our meditation cushions; to give just a few examples. But here we are, seven years later, and none the worse for wear. Smiling, despite some challenges and more than one uncomfortable conversation in 2022. If there is anything we have learned, it’s not to take ourselves, or each other, too seriously and to get out of the way when necessary. To us, running a company mindfully is about paying careful attention to whatever arises with curiosity and an open heart. Knowing when to act and when to let go, and how to do both at the same time. We often come back to the Taoist concept of ‘Wu Wei’, translated as ‘no force’ or ‘effortless action’, to help remind us in the many moments of mindless chaos. Here is to yet another year of making it up as we go along, eternally grateful to be doing it in good company, with a growing family of mindful athletes near and far. Peace, Tom & Max
