Juanita Rosas appears with her head tilted quizzically as she poses against the curved wall in Diego Rivera’s studio. Juanita may have been the sister of Dimas Rosas, a boy from Ixtapalapa whose father was Rivera’s friend. In 1933, Rivera returned to Mexico City from New York and moved into a home with a studio. Here, he focused on easel paintings, including portraits of friends and clients. His studio was more than just a private retreat. As the residence of Mexico's most famous artist, it was a public space, designed to communicate the same synthesis of modernity and tradition evident in his murals and paintings. 🎟️ Reserve tickets for "Diego Rivera's America" at the link in bio. _ [Diego Rivera, "Girl in Blue and White," 1939; The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, Los Angeles; © 2022 Banco de México Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo Museums Trust, Mexico, D.F. / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York; photo: courtesy Sotheby's, New York] #DiegoRivera #Rivera #MexicanArt #SanFrancisco
