Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay and being a founder can be a lonely journey. Here are some ways to look after your mental health: 1. Talk about how you’re feeling Having a low day / week / month isn’t a sign of weakness. It can be a way to cope with a problem you’ve been carrying around in your head for a while. It works both ways - if you open up, it might encourage others to do the same. 2. Treat yourself the way you want others to treat you We’re often hyper critical about ourselves - I definitely struggle with this. Ask yourself whether you’d accept a friend or relative talk to you the way you talk to yourself? And the answer would be NO! 3. Ask for help None of us are superhuman. We all get tired, and overwhelmed when things don’t go to plan. If things are getting too much and you’re struggling to cope, ask for help. It’s OK to not be OK! 4. Take a break Breaks and procrastination are often seen as problematic aspects of the hustle culture we live in. It’s important to have time off, pursue hobbies or to do nothing at all. 5. Unplug Take a break from social media during the weekend and live your life IRL. Mute Gmail / Slack / WhatsApp conversations for 24-48 hours. Once back don’t feel obligated to share everything you did on your stories. Even if it’s part of your job you need to remind your audience that you’re still human. We need to set boundaries and not feel the pressure to reply to all the DMs. I’m curious: how do you stay ontop of your mental health when you’re not feeling it? 🤔☕️
