I had the opportunity to meet @queen_esie , a very inspiring woman and artist. She describes herself as a body hair activist and i was really inspired by her personal story of self acceptance. She shared with me the journey of how she went from hiding her natural self to how she unapologetically embraced it. She explained to me how she wanted to be the representation she wish her younger self had. I felt empowered by her. I never or very rarely meet women who don't shave so i felt happy. This is Crazy how seeing someone who look, do or think like us can make us feel good. Most of us (women) can relate to the discomfort it is to have to submit to beauty standards. It is very frustrating When the society you live in, tells you that your natural self is dirty, disgusting, not good enough and that to be accepted you have to submit to grooming rituals that can be discomforting, painful or expensive. The frustration is even bigger when men have the privilege to not go through the same thing. Im not yet where i want to be when it comes to rejecting beauty standards but im slowly getting there. I've been able to deconstruct myself on many aspect but the pressure to be "beautiful" still a little bit there. i wish one day i will just being able take care of myself without caring about being beautiful or not. Surrounding myself of women like her is definitely a boost... 📸: @caliroyy
