🌍 Elazar Tamano (@elazartamano_art) was born six months after his parents arrived in Israel from Ethiopia. Growing up, he felt caught between two worlds. “I didn’t have the anchor of the Ethiopian background like my brothers,” he says. “I had an identity crisis.”
🍛 Through art and food he found ways to express himself, to explore and celebrate his Ethiopian-Israeli identity. Fittingly, as a chef and artist, he describes his cooking as “Ethiopian with an Israeli accent.”
🍽 Elazar shares his story along with recipes for his family’s Shabbat table, including doro wat, an Ethiopian chicken stew made with bereber spices and tomatoes.
