YOUR VOICES : An illuminated revolving sculpture at Lincoln Center Plaza exploring the 700 languages currently spoken in New York, the most linguistically diverse city on the planet. The work responds to Wade Davis’s observation: ‘ Every language is an old growth forest of the mind, a watershed of thought, an entire ecosystem of spiritual possibilities . It’s haunting to realise that half of the languages of the world are teetering on the brink of extinction’. On now until 18th Dec Free public performances by singers in Zulu, Serbian, Ukrainian , Georgian, Spanish and Mandarin at 6pm on 9th, 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th, 18th December .
