From “Lights, camera, extras: Meet the locals answering Hollywood’s call”: Chelsea Hueter wasn’t sure what to expect when she showed up on set that morning. An art teacher in Everett in 2015, Hueter had submitted a Polaroid to be an extra in “Ghostbusters,” and was thrilled when the casting director called.
It was a restaurant scene at the posh W Boston hotel, and Hueter, who hadn’t acted since playing Sandy in a high-school production of “Grease,” would be one of several extras eating dinner.
“I’d been on set for about five minutes when Kristen Wiig and Andy Garcia walked in, totally casual,” said Hueter, 39. “I was, like, ‘Oh my God, this is happening. This is real.’”
In the end, only Hueter’s shoulder is visible in director Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot of the comedy classic. But she didn’t care. The experience of being on a movie set was so exciting, Hueter began to rethink her career choice. Eventually, she stopped teaching and took up acting, cobbling together enough work, mostly as an extra or stand-in, to make ends meet.
