The colors! The textures! The sights! The sounds! Oaxaca was truly a feast for the senses. I’m beyond grateful I was able to experience this magical city during its most beloved holiday, Dia de los Muertos, and discovered its wonderful paradox: that during this festival which honors those who have died, the city feels so viscerally, bewitchingly alive. From the eye-popping orange of the mountains of marigolds on every corner to the pop of fireworks in the air to the layers or rich and decadent flavors of mole sauce, this city is an absolute marvel. I was so impressed by the craft scene, be it the beautiful terracotta pots at Piedra de Rio (where I had a full blown meltdown and was BEGGING for them to ship me anything and everything) to the handmade candles at Casa Viviana, to the traditional masks, I fell in love at every turn. And, my GOD, the food. This trip did what all great travel should do — make you see how big and strange and wonderful the world is and stop you in your tracks with absolute awe. Huge thanks to @davidprior and the whole team @Prior for putting together the thoughtful and wildly engaging itinerary and @capitalone for making it happen. Absolutely cannot express my gratitude enough. Oh and pics 2,7, and 8 (ie the good ones🥲) were by the incomparable @danielseunglee.
