Last week, we publicized that the union had filed a mass grievance on behalf of all fired probationary employees at the U.S. Forest Service. The Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB) also issued a ruling that issued a ruling that probationary employees terminated by the USDA should be reinstated because the agency engaged in prohibited personnel practices and violated federal laws and regulations governing RIFs and probationary terminations.
Today, the Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued the above press release on their intention to reinstate fired probationary workers.
NFFE is pleased to see that illegally fired workers at USFS and USDA will be reinstated with back pay.
We will continue to file grievances, lawsuits, and pursue other legal avenues to ensure that illegally fired probationary employees from other agencies are reinstated with back pay.
NFFE is still gathering data for future legal challenges and we need your help. Please take our survey (link in bio) so we have information on Trump/DOGE actions and understand how they affect you and your agency.
If you have not already done so, please sign up for emails and share this message with your colleagues.
