Yesterday, I had to listen to women who: 1) served in the military and were in disbelief that they fought to defend this country only to lose their freedom at home 2) a woman who was addicted to meth at the time of her abortion and decided she didn’t want to bring a drug-addicted child into the world 3) a woman who took plan b but because she was on antibiotics, still got pregnant and needed an abortion 4) a woman who conceived as a result of rape. The burden of birth control is almost entirely a woman’s responsibility even though men and women split the responsibility of conceiving a child 50/50. Carrying said child interrupts and even threatens HER life, with no effect to HIS if he CHOOSES. Abortion rights recognized the unique and heavy burden placed on women by being the child-bearing sex. To strip those rights away is to deny the beautiful, complicated, unique power we hold as women. We are less than, we do not deserve, we are powerless. I don’t want to believe this is my country but I sure as hell won’t take it laying down (pardon the pun.) Please do whatever you can (this isn’t a women’s rights issue: it everyone’s. Gay marriage is next, who knows what else.) Protest, post, donate, canvas, create, vote, anything you can muster will help. I’ll see you out there. Link in bio to donate.
