N A N A It’s been a bit quiet on here except for a few stories about my most recent adventure here in North Carolina but before I get to that... My last Insta post in that betwixt Christmas and New Years time, was the day before my Grandmother of 108 years had a fall, broke her hip and went into emergency hip replacement surgery. The few weeks after this have been a bit of a blur. Hospital visits for a week in PPE, then getting prepared for her to come home and getting settled with her home care. We’ve had a team of family and friends who have been helping our nuclear family to give Nana the care she needs for recovery. A big THANK YOU to everyone who has helped us and sent advice and recommendations. Nana’s been my rock since time immemorial and it was a big shock to all of us but she’s hanging in there and healing. She’s even managed to crack a few jokes still, having us all in giggles. It felt very odd to leave her and my family just now to come here for this fellowship at Penland School of Crafts. I know she of anyone, long time supporter of the arts (one of Masterworks Bermuda’s first volunteers) and intrepid traveler and adventurer late in life (trekking in the Amazon in her 80s) wouldn’t have wanted me to miss experiencing this very special artistic and creative community. After all the last time she left Bermuda was to surprise me by attending my degree show in London! That was a very proud moment. I’ll be home again in Bermuda in a week for a little bit before heading back to the UK and back to the studio and the commissions waiting for me. 📷: First photo is me hanging out with Nana early one morning before Christmas this year when we were both the only ones up (she’s always been an early riser). The blanket over her knees was knit by her and my mother. Then it’s us at Christmas dinner and a few snaps over the years.
