2 weeks ago I spent 200 miles rolling the scenic highways of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming. For probably half the race, I was sitting on the wheel of Nathan Spratt. I barely made it over the climbs with him, and the two of us motored away for the remaining 100 miles of mostly flat terrain, content to duke it out for 1st and 2nd. After Nathan struggled with a mechanical, there wasn’t much duking to be done, since neither of us wanted to waste energy attacking on the flats. I had more in the tank for the sprint, putting that old crit experience to work in the last 200m to seal the deal.
