Journalists should ask men the same questions they ask us. “What’s it like being a Male filmmaker?” “What’s it like making Male-driven stories?” I would love to hear critics ask them the same questions and i would love to hear their answers. If you are so obsessed with categorization then do it to everyone. Like Mens and Womens tennis. Or... just ask us the same questions you ask them. Which usually focus on the film itself the technique the story the craft. The part about us being women is intrinsic to our work... so if you talk about our work it will organically emerge. Too often we find ourselves in conversation about this reductive label “female filmmaker” and skip over questions about the films we spent years making. There’s so many cool conversations to be had with us about the magic and madness in our work.

This panel was at @sitgesfestival last fall where my film MONA LISA AND THE BLOOD MOON opened the festival. Making me the first female filmmaker to open the festival what has been around over 50 years. The lovely filmmaker to my right is @pranobaileybond
