Like many of you, we’ve been doom scrolling these last few weeks. We live in an area filled with Federal employees and have seen firsthand the turmoil our government is in. We are involved with the immigrant community in Baltimore, and have also seen firsthand the absolute terror these families are experiencing. Parents are afraid to send their kids to school. People are scared to go to the grocery store. Legal immigrants are being detained, sometimes for days. The fear is palpable and heartbreaking, and we can share memes and headlines on the internet or we can do something. So we’ve chosen to do something, and we need your help (and…uhhh…money). 😉⁣ ⁣ Yesterday we launched a program to purchase groceries for hardworking people in the immigrant community who are too scared to shop for food to feed their children. To be clear, this isn’t a feel good story. ⁣ ⁣ We won’t be posting happy updates and thanking our donors publicly. We won’t be sharing details, we’re not accepting volunteers. The logistics and risks have been thought through and tested to protect the people and communities we’re serving while also giving them the respect they deserve and the food they need to feed their families. We aren’t running this out of our home, we won’t have a website, we aren’t coming up with some fun name or a t-shirt. We won’t be specific about any of it, so in addition to your financial support we are also asking for your trust. I hope over the years we’ve earned it.⁣ ⁣ I’m sharing my venmo/paypal below - no amount is too small. Fifty cents will buy a roll of toilet paper or a can of beans. Everything will make a difference. ⁣ ⁣ I was raised by people who taught me to live my faith not through words, but through action, so that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to be like Jimmy Carter. We’re going to feed children. We’re going to bring comfort to those who are fearful. We are going to love our neighbors.
