FEAR NOT, inspired by James Hampton’s #throne of the Third Heavens of the Nations Millennium Gods General Assembly, housed in #smithsonian - in 1982 I bought a car with settlement money from falling down an elevator Shaft so Denis Johnson and I drove from Key west to see the Throne in Washington DC, stopping on the way to see the space shuttle, win at Jai alai , and visit Hampton’s home town of Elloree SC. Denis wrote the poem I’m reading from here that came out of our experience - it’s also the title of his Poetry anthology - ( portrait of Denis Johnson from 1989) at the very top of Hamptons vision are the words “fear not”.
