“If our love is a sin, then heaven must be full of such tender and selfless sinning as ours.”
Radclyffe Hall, author of ‘The Well of Loneliness’, was born #onthisday 1880.
Hall’s novel is considered one of the first to openly feature lesbian relationships. Following an obscenity trial the book was banned in 1928, the ban was overturned over 20 years later in 1949, six years after Hall’s death. Reflecting on her work, Hall explained: ‘I wrote the book in order to help a very much misunderstood ... section of society.’
