Some moments stay with you — like a sweet flower vendor in Malleshwaram who adorned me with kumkum. I didn’t get her name, but I hope our next meeting happens among the flowers again.
⠀
Bangalore’s flower markets have lived at the heart of the city for over a century — from the grand chaos of KR Market, built in the early 1900s, to the quieter neighborhood lanes of Malleshwaram where generations of vendors have woven their lives around marigolds, jasmine, and temple garlands. These markets aren’t just places of trade; they’re living traditions where dawn begins with fragrance, devotion, and small exchanges of kindness. I was lucky to get a chance to visit them with my aunt on my recent trip there.
This week I paid nearly $200 for just two of these to be delivered to my Brooklyn home from Queens. I longed to be back at the market where this kind of money would have made this vendor’s day.
If anyone out there knows her, please share! ❤️ 💐
