L.A. City Council Member Calls for Colleagues to Resign
A crowd demanding the resignation of three Los Angeles City Council members involved in a recorded conversation laced with racist remarks quieted at Los Angeles City Hall on Tuesday when Mike Bonin began to speak. Bonin is the council member whose Black child was a target of some of the comments.
The recorded racist remarks occurred during a meeting of Councilwoman Nury Martinez with two other council members, Gil Cedillo and Kevin de León, and the head of one of Los Angeles County’s most powerful labor organizations. Martinez stepped down as council president on Monday and said on Tuesday that she would take a leave of absence.
