The best things I ate this week (with highlights in tomorrow morning’s @latimes column!): I found a new #friedchicken to obsess over @maxwellchickenrice @northridgeeats food hall (A second location is coming soon in La Palma). It arrives scalding. I scraped my fork over the golden shell like I've seen countless TikTokers do in videos, offering an audible validation that the skin is superlatively crisp. The rice-flour-based dredge gives the chicken a delicate, brittle skin. It also makes it gluten-free. This is what I like to call drippy chicken. The juice, pent up under the skin, drips from the meat. It's not overly complicated or flavored in any particular way. It's just really good fried chicken. Also from Maxwell, the Hainan chick plate. The skin is flabby in the way that good Hainan chicken is almost like firm meat jelly. The rice is voluptuous with chicken broth and a rich chicken oil. It's simple but so grand. @chefsangyoon ‘s @fathersofficeofficial cheeseburger is still one of the best in the city: a fat patty of dry-aged chuck, Gruyere and Maytag, a mess of caramelized onion and dry-cured bacon compote, enough fresh arugula to make a salad and a soft French roll brushed with garlic butter. This burger has been on best-of lists for decades now. This is simply your reminder to treat yourself to one when you need it. A falafel wrap from the one and only @kareemsfalafel in #Anaheim (open since 1996!) If I’m anywhere near this place, I stop in for a wrap. Short rib #tacos from @kogibbq. Spotted the truck and had to stop. Still the OG. Still🔥 Manaeesh za’atar from the James Beard Award semifinalist @oldsasoonbakery in #Pasadena All the #yakitori @Hachilasvegas in #LasVegas. This is in one of my favorite shopping centers in #Chinatown, home to my favorite KFC spot as well, Q Bistro, just across the parking lot. Thanks for the rec and for the fabulous dinner company Cristie! The meatballs from @Raos_Hollywood . Always, always order the meatballs. And the Rao’s chicken parm. I can never resist that blanket of cheese. #latimesfood
