Hello, this is Rob Clayton photographer, b.1966, @clayton.rob and I am sharing with you a selection of my images from “Estate” (1991) and “Estate - Return” (2018). "Estate" 1990/1991 Communal Washing Line Area, Closed Long since closed due to poor maintenance and vandalism, the roof tops on all blocks were originally designed as leisure and washing drying spaces for residents. The washing poles remain. A #utopian idea related to good health, light and sunshine. Early residents have fond memories of these spaces in use and this is an example of novel, progressive and environmentally friendly design. A melancholic image due to it being an abandoned space and thus an abandoned concept - the many positive improvements to citizens lives afforded by the urgent housing programme, long since forgotten in the demonisation of the working class “estate” #workingclass #councilhousing #documentaryphotography #British #modernism #post-war #consensus #RobClayton #housing #estate
