One Word Can Change & Mean SO Very Much ✊🏾♥️💫: “O Canada! Our Home ON Native Land!” Canadian R&B singer Jully Black @Jully Black was honoured at an Assembly of First Nations (AFN) ceremony in Ottawa for her rendition of O Canada. Black had swapped out one word in the national anthem’s opening line “O Canada! Our home and native land!” with “O Canada! Our home on native land” at the NBA All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, Utah, in February to recognize the Indigenous people who lived on the land before European settlers. She was presented with an eagle feather and wrapped with a blanket during a Blanketing Ceremony by AFN Knowledge Keepers and National Chief RoseAnne Archibald. “Some of the most sacred connections we have as First Nations is with our Afro-Indigenous relatives, our Black allies,” said Archibald. The national chief noted the importance to “honour” those relationships with Black allies. “Historically, in the time of the underground railroad, our relationship with them meant survival and safety,” Archibald said. “Now today, we gather to honour our longstanding and important connection.” (Reporting: The Canadian Press and CBC News; Video: CBC News; Photo: Fred Cattroll/AFN/The Canadian Press) cbcindigenous #JullyBlack #Singer #OCanada #Anthem #NBA #Indigenous #Kanada #Decolonize #DecolonizeYourMind @missjullyblack #AMPLIFYING #FAIRUSE #NOCOPYRIGHTCLAIM #EDUCATIONALPURPOSES #UPLIFT #FUTUREGENERATIONS #LANDBACK #Repost @decolonizemyself #youreonnativeland @urbannativeera @Urban Native Era @Raye Zaragoza @Iniko @digitalsmokesignals @David Byrne @Joye Braun ・・・ #Repost cbcnews @CBC News @CBC ——
