Yesterday marked 9 months from my original surgery. It’s the day that ACLers count down to because that’s the timeline you’re given from day 1. But no one prepares you for what happens if you “miss” that timeline. As an athlete, you feel as if you’ve failed because now you have to wait even longer to get back to doing what you love. I’m currently 3 surgeries in and have not a clue of when I’ll be back to soccer. But it’s unfair to say that I’ve “missed” my timeline because of the cards I’ve been dealt with this recovery. Social media and doctors highlight quick recoveries, but never warn you about the possibility of not being back in the 9 months. It’s devastating and defeating. Wanted to bring to light that it’s okay to be on your own timeline when experiencing injury, and your mental health and well-being will certainly always be more important🩵
