Member of the Month: Gabrielle De Veaux Clements Along with her friends Eliza Sproat Turner and Florence Kelley, Gabrielle helped found the New Century Guild in 1882, though that was by no means her only claim to fame. After studying at the Philadelphia School of Design (now @moorecollegeart) and the @pafacademy, Gabrielle’s career took off. She grew into a well-known artist 🎨 of portraits, etchings and murals, traveling the world with her companion, the impressionist artist Ellen Day Hale. Eventually, she and Ellen would go on to help create an artists' colony in Folly Cove, Massachusetts, where they’d live until she died at the age of 89 in 1948. Her art lived on through multiple posthumous exhibitions. One of the portraits 🖼 in this room is actually thought to be a self portrait painted by Hale in 1883!
