Before I had met my husband’s family, Zeb warned me that his dad was a serious man who may not like me because I wasn’t Punjabi. I was nervous to meet him, but knew I wanted to find a family that I got along with well. Spoiler: we ended up being besties The 2nd and 4th photos are from my dance with my father in law to the song Saturday Night Fever. Although we didn’t rehearse, as soon as he heard the song he ran to the dance floor and did a full performance with me. I text his dad every day, we go on Costco runs together and exchange our favorite recipes. He’s been a fierce supporter of my education, and sends me interesting articles every week. Zeb’s mom has been a huge blessing as well. Last week, she talked me down from a law school freak out then went to get her nails done with me. She makes food for Zeb and I every week so we have one less thing to worry about and has been super understanding about every challenge I’ve had with my transition to NYC thus far. She also has one of the best senses of humor and makes me laugh whenever we’re together. I’m lucky to not just enjoy my mother in law’s company, but find her inspiring and empowering. ❣️ Last but not least, my brother in law - Teimur. It turns out that we were born on the same day and year, which is a wild coincidence. Last weekend he sat with me for 2 hours to brainstorm a strategy for reducing my back pain. He’s always enthusiastic and someone I lose track of time talking to about the latest movies, obscure medical facts, and his latest watch purchase. It’s been a pleasure to have a third (sort of little) brother. Say Mashallah bc I truly hit the in-law lottery with these folks 🩷✨
