Collection 01 ‘Yes You Can Fly’ I listened to an interview with @lidewijedelkoort saying that after the pandemic there would be room for ‘the power of the amateur’. I also enjoyed many hours of listening to @sadguru_isha_foundation_ creating a focus on traditional Indian textiles. I’ve worked with manmade functional fabrics as polyester and nylon for many years. Recycled, upcycled, you name it. I’ve never worked with Ikat. I think even the distance of the many Zoom calls made me want to work with this even more. Something natural. Something real. Something valuable in both an aesthetic sense, but also the exchange with people in the process. Ikat is a beautiful textile made up of complex patterns that are formed by employing resist dyeing on the yarns prior to dyeing and weaving the fabric. In ikat the resist is formed by binding individual yarns or bundles of yarns with a tight wrapping applied in the desired pattern. It’s a experiment. A step in a new direction. Tacky to say so, but we don’t have to see the whole staircase to take the next step. /Elisabet
