It was at the end of the shoot, camera back in its bag and we were walking out when Sarah spotted the butterfly drowning in the rising tide. She scooped it up and allowed it to dry its wings on her. Never to waste a special moment, I pulled out the camera again and snapped some shots of the butterfly interacting with Sarah. This photo reminded me of something a friend said to me today, that we can never rush the process, skip a step, for imagine the consequences should a caterpillar decide it didn’t want to go into the chrysalis phase and skip straight to the butterfly phase. It’s never been about the ending of the story, it’s always been about the journey to the end. As Joseph Campbell would agree that we are each living our own heroic journey.
