As a Malu Kiwai woman I can’t comprehend the feelings of pride I felt from my ancestors wearing this design for the June/July @bazaaraustralia issue. This dress & head piece was designed in collaboration between @hausofdizzy and @nixikillick. It was created to raise awareness of the “Our Islands Our Home campaign: a fight for climate justice for the peoples of the 17 inhabited Torres Strait Islands, for whom rising sea levels, king tides, coastal erosion, coral bleaching and inundation are now an existential threat.” #OurIslandsOurHome @ourislandsourhome Words by @pattyhuntington They took their inspiration from the Torres Strait Islander flag, which features a star and the traditional ceremonial Dhari headpiece.
