After Ghana’s 1979 general elections, Hilla Limann of the People’s National Party (PNP) became president. He inherited power from the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council (AFRC), which had been led by Jerry John Rawlings after his first coup in June 1979. Rawlings handed power over peacefully to the civilian administration in September 1979. However, Limann’s government soon faced serious economic difficulties, corruption, and a lack of confidence from both the public and the military. Rawlings, who had returned to the air force after leaving office, grew disillusioned with the civilian government, believing it was failing to address the country’s problems. On 31st December 1981, Rawlings staged another coup with the support of some junior officers. He overthrew Hilla Limann’s government and suspended the 1979 constitution. Rawlings then established the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) as the ruling body, with himself as Chairman. This marked the beginning of Rawlings’ long rule, first as a military leader (1981–1992) and later as a democratically elected president (1993–2001). #ibrahimtraorepresident #jjrawlings #africa #afriquetiktok🇨🇲🇨🇮🇨🇩🇲🇱🇹🇬🇬🇦🇸🇳 #fyp #ghanatiktok🇬🇭 #panafricanism #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp #garu #bawkutiktokerofficial #viral
