As #worldbreastfeedingweek comes to an end, i want to take a moment to celebrate my nursing journey - the love and snuggles shared, the pain and challenges pushed through, the moments of silence skin to skin, the bonding and joy, but also, the sense of loss and finality as this moment in my parenting journey comes to a close. I wasn't sure how my #breastfeeding journey would end, but I definitely wouldn't have chosen an abrupt halt after Everlee's oral trauma. Yes, I am clear that it was time. I had planned to begin weaning before Everlee started school in the fall. I didn't want it to be a struggle or a fight, so this was probably for the best in the end, but it felt too quick and neither one of our choosing. Though it is challenging to let this part of my parenting journey go, I am so happy that I was able to sooth her with my milk after her fall. I'm proud of how long I was able to nourish both of my girls and it was not always easy. Almost 2 years with Callaway and almost 3 years with Everlee is worthy of celebrating. I truly understand that breast-feeding is not for everybody. However you choose to feed your baby is the right choice. Mama, you are doing amazing! I am proud of myself and I, too, am doing great! Let's take time always to celebrate the hard and the special moments of parenting. Let's celebrate each other and cheer each other on!
