Let me guess...
You’d like to follow the approach of: good on the week days & free on the weekends.
Yet you’re not progressing or even worse, gaining weight.
And a large reason for this, may be due to an “all or nothing” mentality. Meaning, that if you’re going to enjoy, might as well GO HAM on some food, knowing Monday you’ll need to “be perfect” again. But just because you have a free meal, doesn’t mean you need to have a free for all.
So you want to maintain or progress?
Here’s how.
It’s start with your mindset.
❗️It’s NOT “because pizza I ate the pizza, I might as well eat the ice cream.”
!!️It IS “because I ate the pizza, I should skip the ice cream to make sure my calories aren’t too high today. I’ll enjoy it another day.”
Personally my goal right now is essentially to maintain. That means I eat mindfully throughout the week, & even more mindful on the weekends. Meaning that I pay EXTRA attention to what I eat on weekends. I avoid falling victim to the “well I already ate XYZ thing, might as well throw the rest of the day away.” I do this by focusing on how many “free items” I had & how much of them I had. If I wanted a slice of pizza, I’d eat it. But then maybe later in the day when faced with ice cream, I wouldn’t eat it BECAUSE I ate the pizza.
Think of it like a savings account. If you saves $1/day for 5 days, you’d have $5. But if you spend $5 on the weekends, you’re back to $0 savings. But “just because” we spent our savings, doesn’t mean we should rack up credit card debt.
Aka, don’t spend $100 on weekends just because you spent $5 already. Because if you do that, now every Monday you’ll be in debt. & you’ll just be trying to get out the hole you crawled into, never actually progressing.
If you’ve worked hard to create a deficit Monday-Friday, then it’s important to not “undo” all that work if you want to see change or at a minimum, maintain.
Stay away from the “all or nothing” mentality on the weekends. While you may just want to “turn off” on the weekends and enjoy, & not face the reality of your decisions, Monday will come haunt you with them. Stay mindful.
