❤️❤️❤️ "We need to tackle this misconception that heart attack is a man's disease”. It's #worldheartday and @drpunamkrishan spoke on #bbcmorninglive about the worrying statistic of heart attacks being misdiagnosed in women. Watch in full on @bbciplayer 📺 “The signs and symptoms of heart attack are quite wide ranging. The most common one that people know about is chest pain, in the centre of your chest. My patients usually describe it as a pressure or a tightening, like a vice or someone sitting on the chest. This can also radiate, so it can really get into the stomach, into the back, up to the neck and show up also down either arm. You can have these symptoms without chest pain, but there are also less well known symptoms as well, which are really important and not to ignore: Sudden onset of breathlessness, maybe you're feeling really sick and then being violently sick, if you have got excessive fatigue, a sudden sense of panic or doom and gloom and anxiety coming on. These actually might be subtle. They're less specific, but these are more common in women, so if you have any of these symptoms, do not ignore them.” What do you do if you or someone else is having a heart attack? “Time is of the essence. Dial 999 straight away. If you don’t have allergies, I recommend always keeping aspirin at home. What this does is help within the blood and improve the circulation to the blood while you're waiting for an ambulance.” Text paraphrased from Dr Punam’s appearance on Morning Live, 29th September 2022. #heart #hearthealth #heartattack #heartattackwomen #heartattacksymptoms #chestpain
