Momo has the cutest milkmouf there ever was!
These photos are from our baby nursery, which is by far my favorite room in our house. I feel so lucky to have this space—it still feels like a dream come true!
I’ve been fostering kittens for 13+ years now, but for more than half of that time, I didn’t have a dedicated fostering area. I fostered out of my bathroom and playpens in my bedroom or living room, which was great and totally got the job done, but I always dreamed of having more space.
6 years ago when I moved into a bungalow with a guest room, it was my first experience having a kitten room. I loved it, but thinking back, I really didn’t know how to set it up well—it was definitely just a starting point where I learned what does and doesn’t work.
4 years ago, we moved to San Diego and rented a house with a guest room for kittens, and that one was set up much better, allowing me to kind of refine my dream of a perfect neonate space.
So 2 years ago we bought our house, and I knew EXACTLY what I wanted. We enclosed the dining room (because who needs a dining room?) and made it into my dream nursery—and I still can’t believe how much I love the space!
The nursery has stainless steel tables lining the walls, packed with labeled supply storage under each table. On top of the tables are incubators and weighing/feeding stations. On the walls, there are shelves for more storage, a cork board for important notes, a white board for weight tracking, and file storage for medical records. There’s a mini fridge for formula, meds and vaccines, and a sink for food prep and dish washing (having a sink in the kitten room is a game changer!) The majority of the space in the room is a large playpen for when the kittens graduate from the incubator. Everything is so easy to sanitize, and simple to find. It makes caring for our little ones a dream, and there’s not a day where I don’t feel grateful to have this space.
Lots of people have baby rooms in their home...they’re just usually for baby humans. Mine is for baby cats, and for me, it’s absolutely perfect. ❤️
P.S. You can foster without a dedicated room! I did for years & I even have a video about how to set up your space!
