“When I found out I had a super aggressive form of leukemia, everything went dark. I had to do three big rounds of chemo, each of which required a month-long hospital stay. I could have only one designated visitor, which was my husband,” says photographer Nicki Sebastian. “One day, my friends surprised me with a flash mob outside my sixth-floor hospital window. They dressed up as sunflowers, which became a symbol of strength and healing for me. Their signs said, ‘Nic This In The Bud.’ I was sequestered in this sterile bubble, but they showed up anyway.
