πŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“š Last one of the year - with some bloody corkers (a wine book round-up will follow at some point soon πŸ‘€). πŸ“šπŸ“šπŸ“š - In Memoriam - @hjlord1 was the first one to recommend this to me and my God was it a journey, a beautiful and harrowing tale of friendship and love. - Tenderloin - a quirky little French number about a young apprentice butcher, dark and haunting with vivid imagery - Days at the Morisaki Bookshop - charming, cute, very Japanese - Small Hours - more Bobby Palmer, please. Loved this even more than Isaac and the Egg, with a heartbreaking depiction of life with dementia and - as seems to be a running theme - men facing their feelings - Chess - a beautiful and cunning little tale. Must read more Stefan Zweig. - The House on Rye Lane - I preferred The Silence, but a brilliant talk at @reviewbookshop made me appreciate the layers to this book, with the unseen river beneath the rye and the secrets held in old brick - Still Life - oh joy of joys! Sort of modern Wodehouse in places, a touch of the absurd, with guest appearances of famous writers and artists. Split between Italy and east London this is so vibrant and its pages packed with colour, it’s irresistible - What a Way to Go - another fun one from Bella Mackie. I marginally preferred How to Get Away with Murder, but I did read the two in very quick succession - both exceeded expectations. Clever, witty and addictive.
