Ad I’ve partnered with DHSC and NHS to give you all the info on screening. Watch the reel for all the details What is cervical screening? Cervical screening helps to prevent cervical cancer by testing for a virus called the human papilloma virus (HPV). HPV is a common virus that most people will get at some point during their lives. High-risk subtypes of HPV can cause cell changes that may, over time, develop into a cancer. If you have HPV we can test for the cell changes, and if they’re present, we can easily treat them to prevent you getting cancer. So why is cervical screening important? This is SO important because unfortunately two women die every day in England from cervical cancer, even though it is one of the most preventable cancers. How do I know if I’m eligible for a screening and if I am, how do I book it? All women and people with a cervix are eligible to be screened from the age of 25 up to 64. If you’re registered as female at your GP practice you will automatically be invited when your test is due. If you’re registered as male but you have a cervix, you won’t automatically be invited but you are still SO welcome, you’ll just need to make an appointment at your GP practice or local sexual health clinic to request the test. Is there anywhere I can go for more help? If you want more information then please speak to your doctor or nurse, because we really want to support you and make sure you feel well-informed.
