The maiden voyage is complete! I dreamt up this desk a year ago when I first moved into this space. I needed something narrow but with enough workspace to support all my hobbies. It took me a year to pivot my career, start working at a set design shop and learn the tools needed. I’ve been itching to build this ever since I started there this spring and finally I felt ready. I messed up almost every step of the way, and kept having to pivot and course correct so I didn’t waste the wood. Had to change the dimensions, fill in dados and make support blocks out of scraps. This is more than a desk for me—it’s the physical embodiment of my seismic shift this year. Grateful to everyone that’s reminded me that it’s ok to be scared and fuck up along the way.
