This is a portrait of Dr. Kati Kariko, whose research on MRNA laid the foundation for Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccines. I had the honor of surrounding her with daffodils. Her favorite, Narcissus poeticus, is one of mine too, but was scarce on this April day. Instead my friends cut all their white ‘thalia’s’ and more from their farms and gardens in tribute to what she gave us. I’m fairly sure Gary Page cut every single one he had. I massed them at her feet quite simply. No fuss, just an abundance of very humble yet hard-won treasure, perfectly in season, that entirely evaded the global supply chain disruptions of Covid. They’re in the #williammorris wallpaper too.
We discussed rejection and the freedom that awards, sometimes.
