STORY TIME! Gather 'round the campfire, kids. ♨️ Let me regale you with a tale from my 11-day trip to photograph fall color here in Colorado. I'll share another one tomorrow. STORY 1 - The Bear: On my first night out, I joined up with my friends @kanesimages (Kane) and @jaditpnw (Cass) near Ohio Pass. They had secured one of our favorite campsites and it was great to see them again. We cooked dinner and caught up over beer. As often happens when beer is consumed around a campfire with Kane, his food gets left out and dishes are left unwashed (bros before chores). As we were hanging out around the fire, Cass asked Kane if he was worried about bears, explaining calmly that a bear might get into his trash and food since it was left out like that. Kane responded with a cocky smile, "I've been out over 900 times and never had a problem with bears, bro." I backed Kane up and said, "yeah man, we never see bears on these trips." We all had a good laugh and thought nothing more. We go to bed around 12 AM. At 2 AM I'm awoken by loud crunching and scratching sounds coming from Kane's truck. Kane sleeps in a Roof Top Tent and has a @trailrecon Trasheroo on his spare tire on the back of the truck to store trash. I gaze out the window of my @roofnest Falcon, just 10 feet away and see a large black bear climbing on the back of Kane's truck trying to get into his trash! It was taking huge bites into the bag just inches from Kane's fragile skull. I yelled to Kane, "there's a bear on your truck!" Kane and I get up and scare the bear away with loud noises and rocks and started cleaning up the trash. About 2 minutes later, the bear returned, just 10 feet away from me, and I about pissed myself. We were finally able to get it to go away but it's safe to say I did not sleep well the rest of the night. Cass slept through the whole damn thing! The next morning, we were struck by the irony of our earlier conversation about bears. Hilarious to say the least. Lesson learned - be diligent with your trash! 🐻
