Ayse Guvenilir, a student in the Biomechatronics group (@mitbiomechatronics), is one of six authors of poems in the anthology Our Ancestors Did Not Breathe This Air, which The Tech (@thetechmit) calls “a fantastic exploration of identity and belonging.” The authors—Guvenilir, Afeefah Khazi-Syed, Aleena Shabbir, Maisha M. Prome, Mariam Dogar, and Marwa Abdulhai—are all Muslim women in STEM who are children of immigrants; they met as undergraduates at MIT and began sharing their poetry with each other.
