Things I’ve learned today in Yosemite.... - That I didn’t learn much from yesterday, because despite being battered from the day before, I still did a mile hike (25k steps) up up up the Yosemite Upper Falls to Columbia Rock and a 25 mile bike ride down to El Cap and over to Mirror Lake. Was worth it though, even if my calves are fuming. - Regardless of the hike, getting down is always scarier than going up. Granite is a slippery shit. - There IS a difference between a hike and a walk. A big one. I stand corrected. - Those brown bins that look like bears are not bears. Well, not always - Borrowing Maura @maurawilding and Angela’s @mz_wilding binoculars was a great plan - Sometimes Yosemite did a thing to my hair that made me look like Trump, thanks for that m8 - Ask people the same question until you get the answer you want - it took me three days to figure out/ work up the courage to get to El Cap alone (the shuttle doesn’t start until May). I got too spooked walking through the woods with no one around (tried 4 times!) and I was told, twice, you couldn’t cycle on the road. Third time lucky and a guy was like Mate, it’s fine, cycle down there. So I did and I got to sit in the meadow and watch over 100 climbers up there. Incredibly very cool. - It’s fine to get things wrong. I mean, I know that, but a reminder is always welcome - Yosemite, while busy at the big rides, is a place that whirls around your heart and once it’s snuck in it stays forever. All I can think about is going back. Maybe during September next time so I can see Toulomne Meadows and Teneya Lake and more of the wilderness. - It’s brilliant to go alone but also next time I’m taking someone who drives (who knows, maybe me) so I can see sunsets from up high and and watch the night sky without fear of 🐻, 🦌, 🐍 and 🔪. - The given names by native people of the places I visited are ... Yanopah (Vernal), Cholock (Upper Fallw), Totokon-oolah (Cap), A-wai'-a. (Mirror) and Ahwahneechee, Yosemite itself - Yosemite, you have my ♥️ and I will be back for it you gorgeous bastard
