Band Banquet
Did your kid come home from the band banquet last night with this special keepsake Band Shield as a necklace or a key chain?
Let me tell you who was all behind the making of it.
A couple of months ago, Mr Nedley asked Kaveh to see if he can make something special for the banquet to give to all the kids.
From there Kaveh being in the engineering class with the super cool Mr NGO - he started the design process in CAD - once his design was complete he took it to Mr NGO who volunteered to use his fancy CNC machine to cut the tiny little shields from a hard wood sheet that Kaveh picked up from Lowes one day.
Once Mr Ngo was able to get the design cute after a couple of tries and once the correct design was cut, Kaveh and friends got to work.
Thorinn, Edwin, Ben, and Kirin helped Sand the pieces and knock out the tiny pegs out of where the string would go.
Kaveh brought the pieces home and they stunk. They smelled like burnt resin. So We had to do some trial and error to figure out how to get the smell off. The suggestion from the internet was white vinegar - well that worked but now the pieces smelt like vinegar. So we just soaked in soap and water and then laid them in the sun for a day.
Smell finally was gone.
Then Ben, Ron, and Kirin helped Put in all the suede cords that were cut the previous night by Kaveh.
They all needed some sliding slip knots which are super tricky to get right. They did as much as they could during their break but it’s a hard knot to get right. So what was left over to do came home to me.
With banquet only few hours away, myself and my mom and Chris sat down for 3 hours straight to tie all the slip knots and make all the key chains and bag them individually.
So now you know the rest of the story.
Next time you see Kaveh and his buds Kirin, Ben, Ron, Edwin, and Thorinn - please give them a high five and a pat on the back. It took a village.
Also big thanks to Mr Ngo for volunteering his CNC machine and time.
Thanks to Mr Nedley for thinking of the idea and letting Kaveh run with it.
Band kids are the best kids.
