A while back when the borders were open, @spencerzahn and @jacobbergson came up to Montreal from NYC to make a trio recording with me. I was deep in the mixing sessions for the new Braids record and so having these two beautiful musicians in the studio for a couple days to play totally improvised music was a real breath of fresh air. We walked into the sessions without preconceived songs or structures and just created freely. We made a lot of really interesting music over those two days. We ate way too much food. Spencer then took the files to work with Martin Crane @iomcoi to produce and mix them. In the end, these two songs feel as much like paintings as they do music to me. Spencer has been a dear friend for many years and I’m so glad to finally have made a recording together. He’s a stunning bass player with a deep sense of what it means to be an artist. It was through him that I met Jacob when they came through town on tour with Kimbra. Jacob is a wizard with synthesis / sound scapes and a very intuitive improviser.
