Humans of Red Bull New York Michael and Mike Mike: I’ve been going to games since they were the MetroStars and playing in Giants Stadium. My first date with my wife was a MetroStars game in 1999. I played soccer in high school and have always been a soccer fan. I grew up on Long Island, Elmont. Now we’re in the Poconos, we usually come to one or two games year. We just did a backpacking trip out in Utah. We went to a Real [Salt Lake] game while we were out there. [Michael's] whole thing was he wanted to go somewhere that we could do a new MLS stadium. Michael: Soccer is different from other sports because you’ve got the constant flow, play is always going. There’s no stopping and breaks and whatever. It’s constant pressure, just big moments all the time. [The Open Cup Derby] was awesome. Just live, nothing like I’d ever experienced before. Mike: He’s been a huge soccer fan — big EPL fan, has the games on all weekend. So, getting him involved and out to MLS games, having a home team he can root for, is kind of cool. It’s something we can do together.
