❤️✨🎨 #Repost @margatemercury ・・・ I, Too by NYC artist Jon Key is an outstanding exhibition now open at @carlfreedmangallery and is the artist's first solo show with the gallery. Key, a Queer Black man originally from the small rural town Seale in Alabama, presents a new series of vibrant oil and acrylic painting, large-scale screenprints, painted furniture and screenprinted wallpapers, which explore the lineage and history of his identity through themes such as Southernness, Blackness, Queerness, and Family. In an accompanying text written by Key about the work, he says; 'I, Too have lived across the decades. I, Too know the stories — the untold histories of my Black Queerness. I compose safe spaces across time and history. And the people who fill the space are people I know. We have shared tales, pains, joys and laughs. We dance, perform and snap.'
