As the sun sets on 2022, we reflect back on a past year that brought us 110 degree temps, snowfall, baby bighorns, migrating butterflies, blooming Joshua trees, llama fossil discoveries, a wildfire, a new bird species, our 86th birthday, monsoonal flooding, a new visitor center, 3 million visitors, newly minted jr rangers, starry nights, and a whole lot of pretty sunsets. As we look ahead to the new year, we are excited to share with you the beauty, magic, and unpredictable nature of Joshua Tree National Park. Here's to a bright 2023 💫 🥂 Planning to ring in the new year here this holiday weekend? Remember these helpful tips. 🧥 Be prepared for the weather. Cooler temps, rain, and wind are forecasted. 🎟 Buy your pass ahead of time at recreation.gov and reduce the wait time at the entrance. ⌚️ Time it right. Avoid long lines by entering the park before 9 am. The West Entrance in Joshua Tree is our busiest. For faster entry, try the North Entrance in Twentynine Palms or the South Entrance (Cottonwood) near the I-10. 🤸‍♀️ Be flexible. Have a plan B if trailheads, parking lots, and campgrounds are full. The best hike may be the one with available parking. 🌅 The sun sets at 4:45 pm. Don't get caught off-guard hiking after dark. 🫠 Wonderful sunset spots are everywhere. Keys View is very popular but can be crowded, and parking quickly fills to capacity before sunset. Other great spots include Indian Cove, Quail Springs, Cap Rock, and pullouts along Pinto Basin Road.
